Nervous? Here's my journey:
When I first began partner dancing, through Lindy Hop / Swing Dance I realised I'd been missing out and denying myself the joy of dancing for years. Fear of looking silly and embarrassing myself were quickly overcome.
A year later I began Blues Dancing in Bristol. Because this was to rhythm & blues, soul and funk I loved it even more. Because we danced close embrace sometimes and because we danced slow tempo too I found I couldn't bounce and smile my way through so easily. This time is took a few months to feel comfortable. However I found the dance steps so much easier and as I started to realise this was about CONNECTION more than dance moves I really started to enjoy it deeply.
I also realised the language of connection I learned through blues dancing gave me a strong foundation in al the other dance styles. Now, 10 years on, I love dance so much. I've dropped a lot of the rules. I've learned Contact Improvisation, a little Tango and Forró (pronounced Foho) and I like to fuse these all together along with modern music to make BLUES FUSION PARTNER DANCING.
So... Don't let your fear of embarrassment stand in the way of liberation and joy. Come and learn the easiest partner dance to the best music ever!
